Description

Shop this African (Gangan) Talking Drum with Stick here at our online art store. The talking drum is an hourglass-shaped, double-headed drum that is played in West Africa. The player squeezes the sides of the drum, tightening or loosening the membrane to produce a wide range of tones. It is called a “talking drum” because the pitch changes, mimicking the tone and speech patterns of the human voice.

The drums are traditionally carved from tree trunks and molded into an hourglass shape. The head usually has a membrane that is made out of dried animal skin like sheep, cow, goatskin depending on the functionality, but today’s drums head are made out of suede material.

The talking drum is very durable, however you should avoid exposing it to too much direct sunlight, extreme heat or cold, dampness, rain, snow, etc. Your talking drum can be cleaned with a damp cloth, but don’t apply cleansing agents or other cleaning tools. Have fun while producing great music with this African (Gangan) Talking Drum with Stick. The drum could also serve as a home décor.
