Winsor and Newton Galeria White Gesso is made from high quality acrylic resin with a good level of pigment strength. Gesso has a matt finish for maximum color contrast, suitable for acrylic or oil and ideal for sealing surfaces such as unprimed canvas.
It can be used straight from the pot and has perfect “tooth” for film adhesion, it can also be thinned with water for the best application. To reduce absorbency and to boost the integrity of the film a minimum of two coats is required if working with oils.
Gesso can be sprayed on or applied with a brush onto a substrate such as canvas, panel, or paper. It allows the surface to accept the paint, so that paint and mediums do not soak into the fibers of the substrate, which can ultimately cause long-term or severe damage to a painting.
